Product details
The DARCO Wound Care Shoe System Closed Toe is a long-term therapeutic offloading shoe designed to help redistribute pressure away from specific areas of the foot. Made for diabetic foot care, wound management and clinician-directed recovery, it combines a customisable four-layer insole system with protective closed-toe coverage, a soft Plastazote® lining and an ambulatory rocker sole.
Available from Rehabeshop in Australia, the DARCO WCS® Closed Toe may be recommended when pressure relief, wound protection and additional room for bandages or dressings are required. It is supplied as a pair.
Key Benefits
- Targeted pressure redistribution: Four removable, multi-density insole layers can be modified by a suitably qualified healthcare professional to offload selected areas of the plantar foot.
- Closed-toe protection: Helps protect toes, wounds and dressings during clinician-directed recovery.
- Soft wound-friendly lining: Plastazote® lining provides a soft contact surface around sensitive areas.
- Room for dressings: Long adjustable straps and an easy-entry design accommodate a range of bandages and dressings.
- Rocker sole: Supports forward progression while walking and assists with plantar pressure management.
- Adaptable upper: The upper may be professionally modified where additional pressure relief is required.
- Long-term therapeutic design: Suitable for ongoing wound-management programs when recommended by a healthcare professional.
What Is the DARCO Closed Toe Wound Care Shoe Used For?
The DARCO Closed Toe Wound Care Shoe System is intended for conditions where pressure must be redistributed away from vulnerable or healing areas of the foot. It may be used as part of a clinician-managed treatment plan for:
- Diabetic foot syndrome
- Open or closed foot ulcerations
- Plantar wounds requiring targeted offloading
- Pressure-sensitive or vulnerable areas of the foot
- Recovery following toe or forefoot surgery
- Feet requiring additional space for bandages or wound dressings
Four-Layer Customisable Insole System
The included insole system uses multiple densities to provide cushioning, support and targeted offloading. Individual layers can be modified to reduce pressure beneath a specific wound or sensitive area. Any modification should be completed or directed by a podiatrist, wound-care clinician or other suitably qualified healthcare professional.
Who Should Use This Wound Care Shoe?
This is a specialised medical recovery shoe rather than ordinary extra-depth footwear. It is best suited to people who have been assessed by a healthcare professional and require targeted plantar offloading or wound accommodation. For general diabetic-foot protection or everyday orthotic accommodation without an active wound, a conventional extra-depth therapeutic shoe may be more appropriate.
Fit and Sizing
Select your size using the options shown above. The adjustable straps allow room for many dressings and bandages; however, swelling and bulky wound dressings can affect the required fit. If this product has been prescribed, confirm the correct size and offloading setup with your treating clinician before use.
The shoe should feel secure without creating rubbing, excessive pressure, numbness, tingling, discolouration or increased pain. Check the foot and skin regularly as directed by your healthcare professional.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the DARCO Wound Care Shoe help offload foot ulcers?
Yes. Its four-layer, multi-density insole system can be customised to redistribute plantar pressure away from a selected ulcer, wound or sensitive area. Clinical assessment and professional modification are recommended.
Is this the same as the DARCO GentleStep Extra-Depth Shoe?
No. The Wound Care Shoe System is designed for targeted wound management and offloading. The DARCO GentleStep is an extra-depth diabetic shoe primarily intended for everyday protection and accommodation.
Can it accommodate bandages and dressings?
Yes. The easy-entry construction and long adjustable straps are designed to accommodate a wide range of dressings and bandages.
Are the insoles removable or replaceable?
Yes. The four-layer insoles are removable and customisable, and replacement Wound Care Shoe System insoles are available separately where supplied.
Is the closed-toe model sold individually?
No. The DARCO Wound Care Shoe System is supplied as a pair of shoes.
Can I modify the insole myself?
Because incorrect offloading may transfer pressure to another area, modification should be performed or directed by a podiatrist, wound-care clinician or other qualified healthcare professional.
